Your complete guide to Granada Airport

Federico García Lorca Granada Airport (GRX) is the main gateway to the city and to eastern Andalusia, where most visitors begin a trip to the Alhambra, the historic old town or the Sierra Nevada. This independent passenger guide pulls together everything you need in one place: how to reach the city, what taxis and private transfers cost, where to rent a car or leave one, and what to expect on the way in and out. Our aim is a clear, stress-free journey, whether you have come for a city break, the ski season, or the Costa Tropical.

About the airport

The site lies about 15 km west of Granada, near the towns of Chauchina and Santa Fe, roughly a 20 to 30 minute drive from the centre. A single passenger terminal links the city with Madrid, Barcelona and other Spanish destinations, alongside a number of seasonal European routes. Clocks here run on Central European Time, UTC+1 in winter and UTC+2 over summer, and the currency is the euro (EUR).

Getting from the airport to Granada

With no train or metro line to the terminal, almost everyone travels by road. The main choices are:

  • Airport bus. Timed around flights and running into the centre; the budget pick.
  • Taxis. Waiting outside arrivals on the official meter (see our Granada airport taxi guide).
  • Private transfers. Booked ahead at a set price, useful for your hotel, the Sierra Nevada slopes or the coast (compare on our airport transfers page).
  • Car rental. Desks inside the building, best for exploring Andalusia at your own pace.

At the airport

Inside, you will find the essentials for an easy trip: cafés and a restaurant, shops and a newsstand, car-rental and taxi desks, ATMs, free Wi-Fi, and assistance for passengers with reduced mobility. For live arrival and departure times, check with your airline or the official channels before setting off.
